Who is Samuel Morris?

My career in Human Resources did not have a conventional beginning. After deciding to leave behind landscaping jobs, golf course maintenance, and construction gigs, I found myself at a crossroads upon completing my formal education in International Relations. Like many, I was uncertain about my next steps. Eventually, I discovered recruitment as a viable starting point for transitioning from blue-collar to white-collar employment. I began my journey at a national talent acquisition agency, where I honed my skills in professional communications, employment services, and, most importantly, sales. When I mention sales, I refer to it broadly; while I learned how to craft an RFP, I also mastered the art of selling the value of candidates to employers seeking to enhance their organizations, projects, or professional reputations.

After some time, I found myself questioning my career direction once again. The sales-driven environment of a talent acquisition agency no longer fueled my passion for helping others. I decided to make a leap and apply my educational background. Through months of networking, research, and countless job applications and interviews, I was hired by a Canadian crown corporation as an HR Business Partner.

Working within a traditional HR model has provided me with insights into what it truly takes to be hired by a government agency or department. Government hiring is not the fast-paced process often seen in the private sector; it is a methodical process. Knowing how to best position yourself as a candidate in relation to the predetermined requirements and screening processes of government hiring is key to securing employment as a public servant.

What I hope to demonstrate to you is this: I understand the struggle of finding direction in your career path. Whether you have little work experience and are unsure where to start, or you are a seasoned professional dreading a job that no longer serves your best interests, I know how to bridge the gap between those feelings and your next opportunity.

My approach to career coaching is practical. We will begin with broad conversations about your current situation, motivations, and goals, followed by concrete actions you can take to advance your professional pursuits.

With all of this in mind, let's determine if this is the right fit for you.
